New Mallorca public sex laws mean boozed-up Brit tourists face £2,300 fine if they are caught romping in the street

SPAIN - BOOZED-up Brits tempted to have sex in the nooks and crannies of a busy tourist resort in Mallorca could be hit with a £2,300 fine under new laws.

A tough penalty of £1,266 will also be imposed on anyone flouting the “no boozing from bottles in the street” rule as Llucmajor becomes the latest place to get tough on rowdy revellers.

The popular area of El Arenal or s’Arenal in the south of Mallorca says it is fed up with noise and bad behaviour during the summer months and is clamping down – just like Magaluf.

A new raft of bylaws have been approved by the local council as the new tourist season begins, with “very serious” breaches punishable with the maximum fine of around £2,300.

The councillor for police and citizenship Gori Estarellas said the new regulations are “brief and very practical and reflect the complaints that we have received basically in summer in El Arenal and the coastal area”.

Estarellas listed the complaints as “noise, alcohol consumption and the concentrations of people on the street”.

The council described the measures as “very necessary” and Mayor Bernadí Vives said they would be adapted as the summer progressed.

The £2,300 fines will be slapped on anyone found drinking in the street, especially during bottle parties, or if they are disturbing the peace of the resort.

There are also fines of between £42 to £632 for minor offences and up to £1,264 for serious ones.

The very serious category includes “offering, soliciting, negotiating and accepting sexual services in public spaces”, “acts of exhibitionism, proposition or provocation of a sexual nature” and “performing sexual acts in public spaces”.

There will also be a general crackdown on noise and ball games in the street.

For reasons of public order, between midnight and 8am, alcohol will not be sold, except by establishments in the hotel and catering sector “provided it is consumed in the same premises”.
