Tiger Woods breaks silence following his arrest for suspicion of drink driving
Tiger Woods has broken his silence following his arrest in Florida for suspicion of drink driving to claim that ‘alcohol was not involved’.
In a statement released on Monday night, Woods revealed that he had an unforeseen reaction to prescribed medications.
‘I understand the severity of what I did and I take full responsibility for my actions,’ Wood said.
‘I want the public to know that alcohol was not involved. What happened was an unexpected reaction to prescribed medications. I didn’t realise the mix of medications had affected me so strongly,’ he said.
Woods underwent fusion surgery on his back in April, which was his fourth procedure on his back in the past three years. He is not playing on the PGA Tour this season.
The 14-time major champ was undergoing intense rehab sessions since the operation.
‘I would like to apologize with all my heart to my family, friends and the fans. I expect more from myself too. I will do everything in my power to ensure this never happens again. I fully cooperated with law enforcement, and I would like to personally thank the representatives of the Jupiter Police Department and the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s office for their professionalism.’
The athlete, who lives on Jupiter Island, was arrested on Military Trail South of Indian Creek Parkway and held by police at 3am local time on Monday morning.
Woods, 41, was held for nearly eight hours and according to Palm Beach Country Jail he was released at 10.50am.
Woods made his eagerly anticipated comeback after over a year out following back surgery at the Hero Open last December. After an encouraging start he eventually tailed off to finish 15th in a field of just 17.
Woods opened up about his journey back to health on his website just last week, where he revealed that he was determined to get back to fighting fit so he could return to the golf course.
