TWO teen sweethearts who became Britain’s youngest double murderers are to appeal against their 20-year sentences.

Lawyers for the pair — 14 when they knifed a dinner lady and her daughter in their beds — claim the punishment was too harsh.

They were dubbed the Twilight killers after they celebrated the bloodbath by watching vampire films and having sex.

A source said ahead of a hearing at the Appeal Court: “The girl feels she was easily misled and fell under the boy’s spell. She was too young and naive to recognise that before.

“Now the reality she will spend so much of her life behind bars is sinking in I think she’s realised she needs to do something.

“She knows she has done wrong and she needs to be punished – she helped kill those people.

“But she didn’t wield the knife. She believes she wouldn’t have gone through with it without the boy.

“The boy doesn’t have anything to lose so he may as well appeal.” Neither can be identified.

They butchered Liz Edwards, 49, and Katie, 13, in Spalding, Lincs, last April.

A judge who sentenced the pair to life at Nottingham crown court imposed the minimum tariffs in November.

The appeal emerged as the Attorney General said a complaint the judge was too lenient had been rejected.

A spokeswoman said: “After giving the matter his careful consideration, the Solicitor General decided not to refer the case to the Court of Appeal.

“He determined that the minimum terms of 20 years to be served by these two young offenders before they will be considered for release are not unduly lenient and would not be increased by the Court of Appeal.”
