Kerry is currently with the Sultan of Sokoto state.
He is expected to deliver a speech on the importance of resilient communities and religious tolerance in countering violent extremism.
Kerry will also meet with President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja to discuss counter-terrorism efforts, the Nigerian economy, the fight against corruption and human rights issues.
US secretary will leave Nigeria for Saudi Arabia on Wednesday, August 24.
