Photographer reveals what was actually happening in photo of 'woman in headscarf walking by dying man'


A photographer who snapped pictures of a young woman in the aftermath of the London terror attack has defended her after she was subjected to vile racial abuse online.

One image of the woman walking past a dramatic scene on Westminster Bridge was used to fuel hate on social media and draw shameful conclusions or accusations about her.

It showed the distressed woman, who was wearing a hijab, holding her left hand to her head while appearing to look down at a mobile phone in the other as people in the background helped an injured victim moments after terrorist Khalid Masood had ploughed into pedestrians.

Photographer Jamie Lorriman, who snapped the pictures, said the unidentified woman looked distraught and horrified, and he denied claims that she had casually ignored the victim who suffered severe injuries.

Mr Lorriman, who was at the bridge as the attack unfolded, told Mirror Online that he snapped two pictures in which the woman appeared distraught, but didn't notice her until he reviewed the photos afterwards.

The photo where she appeared to be looking down at her phone was taken a split second after another photo which showed her looking straight ahead with "terror" in her eyes, he said. Read More
